Kato Milli - Mykonos, Greece

The Windmills, constructed by the Venetians in the 16th century, are the first sight for the ships approaching Mykonos. The mills' grinding days are far behind, yet they remain a much loved tourist and local hangout spot. Just down the steps is Little Venice, a place worth visiting.

Mediterranean Rhapsody! - Mykonos, Greece

Beautiful little houses and restaurants of Little Venice with balconies and windows hanging over the Mediterranean sea. The perfect spot for watching the sunset here in Mykonos. Look west and you see the sun setting behind the iconic wind mills of Kato Milli. Look east and you can see this view of Little Venice glowing in the warm light of the setting sun.

Holy Sunset! - Mykonos, Greece

The Church of Panagia Paraportiani glowing during a spectacular sunset in Mykonos. This church is situated in the neighbourhood of Kastro, in the town of Chora. The name literally means "Our Lady of the Side Gate" in Greek, as its entrance was found in the side gate of the entrance to the Kastro area. Construction started in 1425 and took almost 200 years. The church actually consists of five separate churches, four at the ground level and one on top.

Our first sunset in the Greek Islands was definitely not disappointing. The Mykonos windmills of Kato Milli are the most iconic feature of the island. The windmills can be seen from every point in Chora (island's principal village).

Wind, Fire and Water! - Mykonos, Greece

The last light for the day as the sun takes a dip into the Aegean sea. These old wind mills of Kato Milli are a great photographic subject. A little tricky to photograph as there are always hordes of tourists surrounding them. The trick is to either photograph them from a great distance like Little Venice, from where you see all of them together and the people become small and unnoticeable, or to get really close with a wide angle lens like in this shot. This was shot at 16mm on a full frame sensor.

Ancient Sentinels - Delos, Greece

Delos, near Mykonos, is one of the most important mythological, historical, and archaeological sites in Greece. We went on a half day excursion to Delos from Mykonos and were awed by the sights. This is a picture of The Terrace of the Lions, dedicated to Apollo by the people of Naxos shortly before 600 BC.

Sunset in Little Venice - Mykonos, Greece

If you are after a sunset in Mykonos, Little Venice is the place to be. The waterfront is lined with fantastic bars and restaurants all of which are perfectly located to watch the setting sun with the famous wind mills of Kato Milli as the backdrop. In the days of yore, many distinguished sailors had built their houses right on the picturesque shoreline. Many of these houses have today been converted into chic bars and restaurants.
