Midnight in Lofoten - Svolvær, Norway

This shot was taken close past midnight in Svolvær. It took numerous attempts to get the required exposure as the clouds kept rolling in and chucking down snow on us. The weather was changing every 5 minutes. Finally managed to get this 130s exposure. In the background you can see the clouds already rolling in for the next round.

The winter freeze! - Lofoten, Norway

A half frozen lake surrounded by towering snow capped peaks. Lofoten is filled with such amazing views. And this was right next to the road.. no long treks needed. Lofoten is indeed a landscape photographers dream destination. I contemplated whether to crop out the sea weed in the foreground but decided against it. I think it adds nice foreground interest and a dash of yellow in the obvious blue tones. What do you guys think?

Wee hole in the clouds - Lofoten

I managed to wake up for sunrise on this particular day (which is a massive task for me). The sky was overcast and gloomy. I setup the camera on the tripod and waited in hope of a break in the clouds to let some light through. As I was about to give up and head back, this tiny little hole opened up to let some light through. The light literally lasted for less than a minute and about 2 minutes later a blizzard. Glad that I waited just long enough.

Fighting the Winter! - Unstad Beach, Lofoten

I love how this grass stands tall while enduring the extreme weather. While on the subject of enduring the weather, check this, Unstad beach is an Arctic surfing beach which is quite popular with extreme surfers. We reached there in sub-zero condition (-10C almost), and believe it or not there were people surfing. We met a couple of them who had come all the way from Australia to surf here.

A palette of colours - Uttakleiv Beach, Lofoten

A long exposure (30s) shot at Uttakleiv Beach in the Lofoten Archipelago using the rocks as the foreground just as the sun was setting and casting a warm glow through an opening in the clouds to the left while dark storm clouds rolled in from the right, creating this beautiful scene with orange, blue and magenta hues.

Whiteout! - Lofoten

We were out roaming in Svolvær in the Lofoten archipelago during a blizzard and everything was almost white. You could only make out the dark shapes of the Fish flakes which are used to dry stock fish. This created an almost black and white landscape, so we decided I decided to add @instasurs in the frame and create this high key shot with a dash of colour. What do you think?

Cabin in a winter wonderland! - Svolvaer, Lofoten

A long exposure pano taken from the porch of a rorbu cabin, with a cabin in the foreground and a cabin just under the mountain (Fløyfjellet) in the background just to give an idea of the scale of this place. Love how these red rorbu cabins are scattered all over the place in Lofoten adding bright red colour to a white landscape.

A dash of colour! - Fløyfjellet, Lofoten

A view right outside our door step in Svolvær. The mountain seen here is Fløyfjellet. The mountain is popular among climbers, in particular Svolværgeita, a 150 m (490 ft) high pinnacle at the southern face which resembles a goat with two horns.

On the Rocks! - Uttakleiv Beach, Lofoten

I took this long exposure while the low clouds caught the last rays from the sun setting behind the mountain on the left. One thing this photo does not show is how slippery the rocks were, I almost got swept into the sea while setting up my tripod on these rocks.

Arctic Surfer! - Unstad Beach, Lofoten

Do you surf? Would you surf here? Unstad beach is an Arctic surfing beach which is quite popular with extreme surfers. It is also the location of the northern most surfing school in the world. We reached there in sub-zero condition (-10C almost), and believe it or not there were people surfing. We met a couple of them who had come all the way from Australia to surf here.

Reflections of a bright blue sky - Lofoten Cathedral

A 7 shot panorama of the Vågan Church in Nordland county, Norway. The low tide caused most of the water to recede converting the fjord to a pool of still water creating mirror like reflections. I used a 10-Stop ND filter to get long exposures to further enhance the reflections. Each exposure was 15s long.

When it snows in Lofoten!

Caught in a blizzard in the Lofoten Islands. Most people would pack up their cameras and call it a day, but i think this sort of weather makes for some unique and moody images. What do you think?

Fire and Moon - Lofoten, Norway

A glorious sunset in Lofoten. The clouds cleared just in time for sunset and the moon rose through the fiery clouds. A fine example of all natural elements working in tandem to create a surreal scene.

Snowy Forest Trail - Lofoten

An overhead shot of a winding trail through a Coniferous forest in the Lofoten islands. We couldn't really walk this trail because of the deep snow, next best thing: Get a drone shot!

Broken Ice! - Haukland Beach, Lofoten

I have just returned from a 10 day road trip to the south and south west coast of England. Still need to go through and sort and process some 2500 odd pics from the trip. So, for today a pic from my recent trip to the Lofoten! Some ice formations from Haukland Beach in Nordland.

Shine through! - Lofoten, Norway

A long exposure sunset on an almost overcast day. The horizon cleared just enough and just at the right time as the sun was going down over the ocean. We stopped at the side of the road apparently at the perfect spot to photograph some ice formations and less than a minutes walk from the car we saw this opening in between two mountains overlooking the fjord and this scene unfolded right before out eyes. Talk about being at the right place at the right time.

Norwegian Sea - Bjerkvik, Nordland

@instasurs staring into the Norwegian sea. This was our first stop after entering the Lofoten archipelago. We stopped for some coffee and fuel, and this was the view right opposite the petrol station. Oh! Lofoten, you are a photographer's dream come true.

Road to the house of dreams! - Lofoten

A lonely secluded house in the coniferous forest of Norway with a road leading up to it. Would you like to live in this house? I definitely would.

The land of Bridges and Islands - Lofoten

The Lofoten Islands are filled with these amazing bridges connecting all the small and big islands via the European road E10. I swear, Norwegians build the best bridges in the world. Not only do they make the smallest of islands accessible via road, they look awesome and are one of my favourite subjects to photograph.

Embracing the Storm - Svolvær, Lofoten, Norway

The pier in Svolvær during a blizzard. We walked to the pier when it was sunny but the by the time we got their (which was less than 10 mins), the weather changed completely and everything went white and kind of flat. Decided to go for a moody image trying to capture the blizzard. Thanks @instasurs for walking in knee deep snow for scale and adding some colour to the almost white landscape.

Red & White - Lofoten, Norway

A Norwegian Cul-de-sac we came across while wandering in Svolvær. I love the contrast between the bright red Rorbu cabins and the white winter landscape of Lofoten. These cabins can be found all over in the Lofoten archipelago. Used a long lens to compress the background and accentuate Fløyfjellet mountain in the background.

An opening in the clouds - Lofoten, Norway

It was mostly an overcast day in Lofoten with the sun peeking through now and then for just a couple of minutes at a time. I liked how the parts of the landscape were lit while the rest of the scene was in shade. In this image the light is just hitting the islands in the middle while the mountains in the distance are covered with thick dark clouds.
