The Stare! - Eurasian Blue Tit, Northwood, UK

The Eurasian blue tit and the related hybrids are considered native species in areas of the European continent with a mainly temperate or Mediterranean climate, and in parts of the Middle East. These areas include Ireland, the United Kingdom and most of the European Union. Blue tits are great gymnasts in the slender twigs. They will often ascend a trunk in short jerky hops, imitating a treecreeper. They are very agile and can hang from almost anywhere.

Angel Bird - Arctic Tern, Mývatn, Iceland

This pose certainly reminds me of how Angels are represented in illustrations. I overexposed this image on purpose and dropped the clarity just a bit to give it an ethereal feel. I think it definitely works with the pose.

On the Prowl - Horned Grebe, Lake Mývatn, Iceland

Horned Grebe in Lake Mývatn which is a shallow eutrophic lake situated in an area of active volcanism in the north of Iceland, near Krafla volcano. The lake was created by a large basaltic lava eruption 2300 years ago. Horned Grebes dive underwater to feed on aquatic arthropods, fish and crustaceans. The Horned Grebe has the ability to swallow fish whole. They eat their own feathers, so their stomach has a matted plug that functions like a filter to hold fish bones till digestion.

Who goes there? - European Robin, Northwood

Known simply as the robin or robin redbreast in the British Isles is an Old World flycatcher. In Britain and Ireland, it is relatively unafraid of people and drawn to human activities involving the digging of soil, in order to look out for earthworms and other food freshly turned up. This is because, here, the robin is considered to be a gardener's friend and for various folklore reasons the robin was never harmed. In continental Europe on the other hand, robins were hunted and killed as with most other small birds, and are more wary. Robin has an average life expectancy of 1.1 years; however, once past its first year it can expect to live longer and one robin has been recorded as reaching 19 years of age.

The long-tailed tit (Aegithalos caudatus) is globally widespread throughout temperate northern Europe and Asia, into boreal Scandinavia and south into the Mediterranean zone.
